Sujay Sanan is an Indian-born artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. Trained at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, his practice explores natural history, ecology, and the relationship between living and non-living worlds. Over extended series, Sanan employs inks, watercolours, acrylics, and graphite to create detailed studies of animals, plants, and marine life, combining careful observation with material sensitivity.
His image of a Southern Right whale and calf was selected for South Africa’s 5-rand coin, and his paintings are held in private collections across eleven countries. Sanan has had multiple solo exhibitions and collaborates with organizations such as WWF to support conservation efforts.
