Mobeen Akhtar is a London-based artist who specialises in traditional Islamic arts and miniature techniques, drawing upon arabesque design, geometric patterning and the luminous pages of historical manuscripts. Working with hand-prepared papers and pigments, her practice favours meticulous, spiralling ornament and densely worked pattern fields that revive and adapt centuries-old methods for contemporary subjects. Akhtar has taught and lectured on miniature technique and has participated in exhibitions and projects that foreground the craft of illumination, pigment grinding and the geometry of ornament.
