Sukhnandi Vyam (b. 1983; Sonpuri, Madhya Pradesh) is an artist working within the Pardhan Gond artistic tradition. Based in Bhopal, he is part of the generation of artists shaped by the artistic movement initiated by Jangarh Singh Shyam (1960–2001). His practice is informed by inherited narratives, oral traditions, and the visual memory of his cultural landscape.

Working across wood, clay, metal and canvas, Sukhnandi explores the relationship between storytelling, imagination and material form. His paintings reinterpret scenes from Gond folklore and mythology through delicate lines, soft colours and playful compositions. Recurring elements such as animated fruits, leaves and natural forms reveal his distinctive approach to transforming everyday imagery into imaginative worlds.

While his practice spans multiple media, it is his wood sculptures that have received particular recognition. In 2002, he received the Madhya Pradesh State Government Award for an elaborate wood-carved mangrohi wedding totem. His sculptural practice was also featured in Udayan Vajpeyi’s publication Jangarh Kalam (Vanya Prakashan, Madhya Pradesh Tribal Welfare Department), which documented the evolving artistic practices associated with this movement.

Through sculpture and painting, Sukhnandi Vyam continues to expand the possibilities of Pardhan Gond visual traditions, bringing together inherited narratives, material experimentation and contemporary forms of storytelling.
