Kalpana Subramanian is an artist-filmmaker and researcher from India. She is an alumni of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, makes independent films and has taught communication design for several years. She is presently pursuing her Ph.D in Media Study at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her current research interest is to explore aesthetic frameworks for comparison of the experimental moving image across cultures. Her short films have been screened at several film festivals and won recognition internationally. She recieved the UK Environmental Film Fellowship in 2006 and a Fulbright Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Award in 2015-16 to pursue research at the Film Studies Program at the University of Colorado Boulder. She also writes children’s books.
