Gareeba Singh Tekam (b. 1980; Dindhori, Patangarh, Madhya Pradesh) is a contemporary artist working within the Gond painting tradition. His practice was shaped by the artistic legacy of his family and refined through training under Jangarh Singh Shyam, whose practice expanded the possibilities of Gond painting within contemporary Indian art. Rooted in the visual language of the Patangarh school, Tekam’s work extends inherited forms through a sustained engagement with Gond cosmology, oral narratives and the natural world.

Drawing inspiration from forests, wildlife and the interconnectedness of human and non-human life, Tekam creates intricately patterned compositions that celebrate ecological relationships and cultural memory. Working primarily on canvas and paper, while also adapting his practice to murals and textiles, he continues to explore the expressive possibilities of Gond painting across diverse surfaces and contexts.

Over a career spanning nearly three decades, Tekam has received recognition through exhibitions and craft initiatives across India, with his work also reaching international audiences. Among his notable projects is a monumental 10 x 8 foot painting presented at the Taj Hotel during a Dastakar Haat Committee exhibition. Working alongside his wife and daughter, he remains committed to sustaining and transmitting the Gond artistic tradition while contributing to its continued evolution in the contemporary moment.
