Gaman Palem is an Indian comic book illustrator. He has illustrated more than 100 Indian children’s comics, working mainly on mythological subjects.
He did his Education in Mass Communication, Chennai and went to procure a doctorate degree in the same subject from the Madurai Kamaraj University, Tamil Nadu. However, Palem’s mind was not glued to academics. A true graphic visualizer and an avid follower of graphic novels from all over the world, Palem decided to set sails into the larger ocean of graphic visualizing and today he is one of the highly acclaimed graphic designers and an artist who uses graphic novel format as a medium to express his ideas. With a deep understanding of Indian mythologies as well as their regional versions and interpretations, Gaman Palem makes use of his knowledge for creating a series of works that blend the mythical characters to contemporary contexts.
Gaman’s first series of eight picture books, The Golden Mythology Series, won the National Award for Excellence in Printing Children’s Books. Gaman Palem worked at Loyola College of Education in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, was a visiting faculty at Raffles College, a creative consultant in many publishing houses and animation studio.
He also works in 3D animation, but is more interested in creating graphic novels and comics. His debut Art show was in September at The United Art Fair 2012. His works have been published in major graphic magazines, journals and he has exhibited widely in India.
