Shiva in Varanasi: A Tribute to Ganges

A public art project, where the myths and stories of Shiva were celebrated through an amalgamation of paintings by artist Abhishek Singh and unique public art display modes. Ojas Art organised this unique moving exhbition on the ghats of Varanasi with the intent of bringing the art straight to the people to experience first hand and have the works be part of a much more grand cultural fabric of the varanasi ghats framed by the majestic Ganges.
The artwork, Samundramanthan at Varanasi was a unique experiment where viewers experienced the day-by-day progress of the special artwork measuring 6 feet by 15 feet. Also, it symbolically used the story of samudra manthan for social awareness, the message being “Like Shiva you too must clean the rivers and ocean.”
The moving exhibition of the original artworks was visited by local Varanasi residents, university students and tourist from India and overseas. The support and response of the journalists and artists communities in Varanasi was tremendous and very positive. To exact the number of people who saw this would be difficult considering the nature of the project but definitely in the vicinity of atleast two million people.
